“Enthusiasm is excitement with inspiration, motivation, and a pinch of creativity.” – Bo Bennett
My life, so accurately described by the title of this blog and its acronym, ADD, is split amongst many places and types of people. If you’ve stumbled across this site…you probably fit into at least of the many hats I wear.
First and foremost, I am a junior at the University of North Texas. GO MEAN GREEN! (: My senior year, if you’d told me I would have loved UNT as much as I do, I would have questioned your sanity. But I really do love UNT, the city of Denton and everything that comes with being a part of the Mean Green family!
Secondly, I am a proud member and former Executive Officer of Collegiate DECA. DECA is an international student organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management. I joined DECA as part of the Birdville Travel Academy my sophomore year in high school, and spent 3 fantastic years Chapter Officer, State Officer and National Officer candidate, as well as being chosen as the first DECA Direct Social Media Correspondent in Summer ’12.
I learned SO much during my time in high school DECA and didn’t want to let go…so I founded UNT Collegiate DECA the fall of my freshman year with some fantastic girls whom I met while running for State Office.
By the grace of God, I won second in the world in my competitive event with my incredibly patient partner, Marcey, and was elected to serve as an International Executive Vice President at the International Career Development Conference in April 2014. I was so incredibly blessed to serve with these amazing men for the 2014-2015 term.
More recently, I’ve started working as a coach for young leaders in DECA, who are in the same places I was in high school. It’s a great opportunity to share my experiences and mold the future of the business world! You can learn more about my DECA journey here.
The third facet to my crazy life is my time spent each year at Scarborough Renaissance Festival. I’ve been attending the faire since infancy, but I sort of snuck my way into participating with a small improv group called the Scarborough Celtic Troupe my sophomore year – yes, that was a very busy time in my life.
Three years later, and we’re now the #1 Renaissance Lane Act (non-stage, group act) in the country! I love my time portraying Lady Sophia MacDuff, sole heir to Kinross – she is my alter ego, the more bratty, carefree side of me that I haven’t really been able to show since I started taking on leadership roles in DECA.
I am incredibly bless with great friends and a supportive family who have all stood behind me in my trials, tribulations and triumphs. They nerd out over Doctor Who with me, taste-test my recipes, proof-read my writing and listen to me rehearse for musical auditions. They are my support system, and I love all of them!
I’m an advocate of young professionalism, being well-read, and having a versatile and fabulous wardrobe (on a budget, of course!). My life has always been crazy, and it’s getting crazier by the moment. If you’re reading this, you must be seriously interested in the goings-on of a nerdy college student who happens to live about 15 different lives. Ready or not, world, here I come.
